This free FKEY makes it easy to obtain screen, window, or object locations or sizes in pixels, using global or local coordinates.
Calling the FKEY “freezes” the current screen. Click and dragging pulls a marquee across the screen. Current coordinates and height and width of the selection rectangle are displayed in the menu bar. If the shift, command, option, or control modifier keys are down when the mouse button is initially pressed and a window is in front, the coordinates are local to that window. Otherwise global coordinates are used. When local coordinates are used, an “L” is displayed in the left of the menu; “G” for global coordinates.
Pressing a key restores the menu bar; use the Enter key to copy the current selection’s coordinates to the clipboard in the form “left,top,right,bottom,” just the way the SetRect procedure wants it. I’ve found this feature quite useful for obtaining local coordinates for the drag command in HyperCard.
Press the Caps Lock key to overlay a 50 by 50 pixel grid onto the screen.
If executed on a machine running in color, the current menu colors will be used to display the information.
This FKEY ID is 7. It can be installed with Suitcase or copied into the System File using ResEdit, renumbering as necessary.
